Quiet Parts Out Loud is a collection of short poems, odd observations, wandering thoughts, and simple illustrations about the things that live inside my head before I decide whether they should come out of my mouth or not.
Some are funny. Some are thoughtful. Some are a little strange. And some begin with the kind of ordinary moment that probably shouldn’t deserve a poem, but somehow does.
The idea is simple: take the small thoughts, questions, frustrations, jokes, and bits of nonsense that usually pass unnoticed and give them a little room on the page. The drawings are often part of the joke, the poem, or sometimes a second thought happening alongside the words.
It’s inspired by the kind of illustrated poetry books I read in my youth, and I hope that you can open to almost any page and find something unexpected, but Quiet Parts Out Loud has its own voice; part humor, part reflection, and part overactive imagination.
Mostly, it’s a book about what happens when I allow the quiet parts of my mind to escape onto the page.
I hope you enjoy my imagination.
